47 years after Bernard Hinault’s triumph, Haute-Savoie is once again preparing to welcome the world’s best cyclists and para cyclists. With the road events of the 2027 UCI Cycling World Championships Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc set to begin on 24 August 2027, all sporting information regarding the routes of the road events was unveiled this Friday, 25 September.
From road cycling to para cycling, UCI World Champions will compete on demanding, spectacular courses deeply rooted in the landscapes of Haute-Savoie. From the Côte de Domancy to the shores of Lake Annecy, via the iconic mountain passes and roads of the region, these courses will provide a playground worthy of the event, in a territory with a long tradition of hosting the greatest cycling competitions.

Road cycling: the Côte de Domancy and the Lake Annecy loop, two Haute-Savoie classics set to be decisive

In Sallanches, following in Bernard Hinault’s footsteps
From 27 August to 5 September, the road races will take over the area around Sallanches and Domancy, in the heart of the Pays du Mont-Blanc. Starting from Route du Fayet, riders will rediscover a circuit that has become legendary: the one where Bernard Hinault claimed the world title in 1980 in the men’s race, while American Beth Heiden won the women’s race.

More than forty years later, the course will make its return for the World Championships, with one unavoidable feature: the Côte de Domancy (2.5 km at 9.4%). On each lap, its climb will test the cyclists and progressively reduce the size of the pelotons.

For the Men Elite: 20 laps, 265 kilometres and 5,700 metres of elevation gain.
The Women Elite will complete 12 laps, covering 158.6 kilometres and 3,420 metres of elevation gain.
The other categories will also take on this circuit with adapted formats:
•    12 laps for the Men Under 23 
•    9 laps for the Women Under 23 and Junior Men category (118.7 km and 2,565 m elevation gain) 
•    6 laps for the Junior Women category (78.8 km and 1,710 m elevation gain) 

After the men, who will compete in their race on 29 August, the Women Elite riders will take on the Côte de Domancy on 5 September. A prominent place for the women’s race, which will bring the road events of the 2027 UCI Cycling World Championships Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc to a close. A choice that reflects the Organising Committee’s desire to give women’s cycling all the visibility it deserves.

Around Lake Annecy, the time trial between lake and mountains
Another major highlight of road cycling in 2027: the Lake Annecy loop, which will host the time trial events. From 30 August to 2 September, the world’s best time trial specialists will discover the shores of Lake Annecy, in one of the most iconic settings of the region.
The start will be given in the heart of Annecy. From there, riders will follow the lake, passing through Sévrier, Saint-Jorioz, Duingt and Doussard. The second part of the course will offer a completely different profile with the Côte de Talloires (1.5 km at 6.5%). A short but decisive climb, with a spectacular view over the lake in the background before returning towards Annecy via Menthon-Saint-Bernard and Veyrier-du-Lac.

For the Elite and Under 23 categories, the course will be completed in full: 37.2 kilometres and 235 metres of elevation gain. The Junior riders will start from Doussard on a course of 20.3 kilometres and 202 metres of elevation gain, including the climb of the Côte de Talloires.

On 2 September, the same setting will host the Mixed Team Relay, with a major innovation in the history of the discipline: Women will start the second relay leg, on a different, longer and more demanding course, and will be responsible for bringing the race to its conclusion. The Men will open the race with a first section of 16.9 kilometres and 63 metres of elevation gain, between Annecy and Doussard. Then, after the official handover in Doussard, the race will change profile: the Women will set off for 20.3 kilometres and 202 metres of elevation gain (the same as the Juniors), with the Côte de Talloires as the only difficulty on the course.

Para cycling: around Rumilly, five days of competition through the Albanais region

From 25 to 29 August 2027, nearly 500 para cyclists will gather in Rumilly for five days of competition on the roads of the Albanais region. The proposed courses feature significant elevation gain, making the races demanding and giving the most precise riders the opportunity to make the difference.
All details regarding the routes and formats depending on the categories will be presented in Rumilly in the coming days.
